He was one of Alfred Hitchcock's favorite storyboard illustrators, working on such classics as “The Birds” and "Marnie," as well as Mike Nichols's "The Graduate" and Francis Ford Coppola's "The Cotton Club." In addition to being Hollywood's most sought-after storyboard artist, Michelson was Oscar®-nominated for his work as production designer on Richard Brooks's "Terms of Endearment" and Robert Wise's "Star Trek: The Motion Picture."
