Synopsis
“Fighting It,” views overcoming adversity, coping with trauma, and healing from the past through the lens of boxing. That such healing can take place in what is considered a violent sport, is what makes “Fighting It” unique.
In 2007, filmmaker Jill Morley decided to fight in the NY Golden Gloves. At age 40, she was already six years past the amateur age limit. She knew she'd be competing with younger girls who had much more experience, but her drive pushed her ... until it pushed her right over the edge. Sparring spawned muscle memories of childhood abuse which caused nightmares, dissociative episodes and an emotional breakdown.
With the help of Jill's husband and her newfound friends in the ring, "Fighting It" documents the physical and emotional obstacles she faced throughout her life changing journey. It also shows the other women's battles; their triumphs and defeats, in and out of the ring.
