Bio

Nicole Miyahara is an ethnographic documentary filmmaker with a Masters degree in Visual Anthropology from the University of Southern California. There she completed “The Making of a King” which explores the relatively unknown subculture of drag king. Upon graduating, ran a successful Kickstarter campaign to turn her thesis film into a feature. Miyahara was a 2014 Armed With A Camera fellow through Visual Communications, a non-profit that advocates for the emerging voices of APIs in media. There she created, “To Sit With Her” a short documentary about a Taiwanese-American transman and his relationship with his 97-year-old grandmother. The film premiered at the 2014 Los Angeles Asian American Film Festival. Miyahara works at the Japanese American National Museum where she focuses on the importance of culture and storytelling.
