Bio

My interest in documentary film-making began in 2011 when, having taken a sabbatical from my job as a teacher of film and media, I ended up in Ecuador working with Dr. Max Moreno who had at that time secured a commission for a 12-part documentary series with Ecuador public television entitled Salud y Vida. During the three months my wife and I were there, Max took us off to several far-flung destinations where I filmed him treating the sick and interviewing local personalities about the health issues endemic to that region. Afterwards we'd return to Max’s office in Quito where he’d rigged up a small editing studio including an iMac running Final Cut Pro connected to a sound booth, and there, day after day, we’d work long into the evening, editing together the footage and recording Max’s voice over, to produce the finished half-hour programmes that would be broadcast on national television shortly afterwards. I was working like this in Ecuador for just three months, but the experience left me with a strong urge to continue with this kind of work, and I've now left my position as a teacher to train more seriously as a filmmaker. As a student on the MA course in Documentary at the University of Salford, I've made a number of short films and become proficient using DSLRs as well as professional broadcast-standard cameras, editing on a range of professional software including Adobe Premiere, Avid and FCP. I'm looking forward now to working in collaboration with other serious-minded creative professionals to make some really good films.
