Bio

Melissa found her way to filmmaking through activism. She edited the award-winning documentary, "Married in Spandex" as well as the 2022 short "She Got Balls!" Her own documentaries have screened worldwide, from the Duke Center for Documentary Studies to the Cork Film Festival. She has worked on countless advocacy videos for community groups and non-profits, including Greenpeace, KPBS' "Totally Unprepared" series, the National Women's Law Center, A-Doc, Ipas, the Better Block Project, and most recently Edutopia's "Schools that Work" series. She's drawn to projects that – despite imperfect footage, storylines, and characters – shine a light on today's most pressing issues.
