So the Arclight Cinema in Hollywood is launching a new documentary festival, with a multi media twist. Submissions are via uploading trailers online, which the general public votes on. The top 10 vote getters will be invited to submit full features, and will be juried by 4 judges including yours truly.
The 10 nominees will be screened at the Arclight Hollywood, and the winner will win a $10,000 cash prize.
If you're in the market for $10k, and you have a kick ass trailer for a completed feature, and you're not averse to crowdsourcing votes, then I'd say it's a great opportunity!

But do they get credit and recognition? Love and understanding? Not enough! We thought it would be fun, fitting, and overdue, to bring the whole documentary community together to drag some of our shy artistic and technical masters into a little spotlight. Weâ€™ll explore their critical, quiet crafts and celebrate their enormous and under-celebrated contributions to the films of their far more famous directing/producing brethren.
The Honoree will present and discuss clips of his/her work, take questions, and be toasted en masse, followed by mingling with cheap drinks and refreshments. Director/Producers who have worked with the Honoree will be invited to testify to their powers. We hope to attract an intergenerational audience: film students who can learn about important professional film career paths, and Doc Makers who want to raise a glass in appreciation.

I'm looking for an assistant for about 10 hours of work per week in my Durham, NC based office. It is a paid gig. Ideal candidate will have excellent research and computer skills (including really basic FCP familiarity), a can-do attitude, an outgoing personality and will believe that no job it too big or too small.....
The assistant will be working directly with me on my new hybrid documentary, Lucy: A Portrait. Tasks will be as varied as archival research, casting assistance, office organization and management, hands-on help during shoots, location/prop scouting and keeping me generally sane by helping with whatever comes up day to day.
I will consider working with graduate students or highly motivated undergrads. Must have car.

Two-Week Documentary Workshop – Mississippi Delta – February 2012
Dates: February 12th – 26th, 2012
This two-week HD workshop runs twice a year in the heart of the Mississippi Delta and is designed for those who want to learn documentary filmmaking top to bottom in an intensive setting.
Past participants have included new and established filmmakers, writers, journalists, artists, photographers, graphic designers, theater actors and directors, musicians, educators and non profit organizations. Previous experience with filmmaking is NOT required. Producers, cinematographers, editors and writers with narrative experience who are considering working in non-fiction filmmaking are also encouraged to enroll. Photojournalists and print journalists who are looking to make the move to video journalism should strongly consider this workshop.
Students learn all aspects of the process including the importance of the still image, HD cameras, archives, compact lighting methods, wireless mics, how to structure and weave the story and how to edit in the field with Final Cut Pro.

Looking for professional audio (for video production) workshop/classes in the New York area. Ideal would be something slanted towards documentary field recording, esp for HDSLR workflow, for someone with basic audio operating experience. So not for a total novice, but someone who learned on the job and so doesn't have a very good handle on the fundamental whats/whys/hows.
I know about DCTV in Chinatown. Any other suggestions would be great.
