Also, when one submits cold to Discovery, for instance, you basically have to sign something similar before anyone will look at your stuff. From their point of view, they get thousands of submissions, many for ideas that look pretty similar to each other, and would rather be protected from what they see as reasonable-looking, but actually not, stolen ideas. Particularly if the submitted does not have an industry track record.
IDA's DocuDay is almost here. An all-day orgy of documentary deliciousness featuring back to back screenings of all the nominated shorts and features. Happening in LA and NY. LA screenings feature the filmmakers and subjects in attendance. You can buy a single tickets or an all-day pass. It's a heap of fun.
Story Consultant needed – After working on my political documentary for 4 years, I realize that I need someone experienced with fresh eyes who help shape what I've put together into an exciting must watch documentary. Since this is a political documentary, the subject matter won't be for everyone, as I'm telling a story, not pushing an agenda.
Pay would be in some combination of salary and equity. This is an independent film, however, so keep that in mind. DBLasdon AT ca.rr dot com
On Monday night in LA, I'll be moderating a special International Documentary Association Doc U dedicated to the pursuit of the little golden man, and how the Academy's new Oscar rules might change that lovequest in the coming year. Join me and Steve Pond (The Wrap), Dana Harris (IndieWire), James Moll (AMPAS) and Dusty Smith (Roadside Attractions) at Cinefamily @ The Silent Movie Theatre on Monday at 7:30pm. I plan to ask a lot of questions :)
Sounds good. Is there a D-Word promotional code? IF not, no probs!
Nope. But $15 if you're an IDA member. You ARE an IDA member, right Jill? Not that I'll fight with you over it, but ya know...

DP and Sound Needed in Minneapolis, MN in July, 2012
I will be shooting a series of interviews in Minneapolis for a week in July. Not sure of the specific dates quite yet. The film is about a blind telephone hacker, who spent the last part of his life (he passed away in 2007) living in Minneapolis.
Please send me an email if you are interested with links to work, previous experience, whether you own equipment and if so what.
Feel free to post elsewhere.

I am a tv producer working in unscripted tv in DC. I have been making a podcast about the creators of unscripted film and tv called "The Real Stuff". It's direct, one-on-one interviews. You can listen for free on my site www.darrencoyle.com or you can subscribe on iTunes for free. Please give it a try, and if you like it tell a friend. It relies on word of mouth. I think most people who go to this site will want to check it out!!
