Over the last several months, a local woman has transcribed something like 150 hours of footage for me. She's amazingly fast and accurate. She's interested in doing more, and I'm not going to have enough to keep her busy. So if anyone needs a reliable and reasonable transcriptionist, email me and I'll introduce you.

Producers/Collaborators Sought: Doc Film On People Living In Cars

Hi there,

My name is Jeff and I am a first-time filmmaker. I have been filming footage of people living in cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs since last fall. I also live in my SUV and film my experience too.

Not having gone to film school, I am seeking producers and collaborators with filmmaking experience to help transform this footage into an actual film.

Here’s why you should work with me:

-Having worked on a major political campaign, I know how to make and confirm definite commitments with excellent follow though
-I live in my SUV making me all the more able to earn trust among fellow vehicle dwellers
-If I am able to make this film, because I live in my SUV, it will be an amazing underdog story
-I am an emerging YouTube personality. My videos have received almost 13,000 views in just 3 months, with almost 700 YouTube friends and 125 subscribers (I have not lost a subscriber yet). The channel is: jeff4justice
-I have hours and hours of original/unique footage on this topic
-I have researched this topic extensively
-This is a timely topic because of the economic crisis

Here’s what I have filmed:

-6 Interviews of people living in vehicles
-2 Interviews of government workers & elected officials who have been engaged with this topic
-5 interviews with people working in nonprofits serving homeless people living in vehicles
-2 interviews with local residents in neighborhoods with people living in vehicles
-2 interviews with local representatives of neighborhood groups in neighborhoods with people living in vehicles
-1 interview with a police officer
-1 town hall meeting on this topic

All interview subjects signed media releases forms.

I have also filmed various footage of vehicles that appear to be lived in, traffic scenes, and various filler footage.

Here’s where I have filmed:
Walnut Creek, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Venice/L.A. – all in CA

Here’s what I need to film more of:

-2 interviews with women living in vehicles
-2 interviews with families living in vehicles
-More racial/cultural diversity of interview subjects
-More in-depth follow along of 2-3 people/couples/families living in vehicles

Also, I just learned of a lawsuit involving people living in vehicles VS. the city of L.A. regarding laws that outlaw living in vehicles. Footage of the court events would be great too!

Equipment used:
-Kodak Zi8 camera
-Audio Technica ATR-3350 Lavalier Omnidirectional Condenser Clipon Mics

A 15 minute clip preview is available.

Like documentaries such as An Inconvenient Truth, Out In The Silence, The Cove, and Food Inc., this documentary has great potential be utilized as a platform for social movement to advocate for safe parking programs (similar to what exists in Santa Barbara and Ventura), the repeal/modification of laws illegalizing sleeping in vehicles, and a network of support for people in this situation.

Thank you for your consideration.

-Jeff Girard
530-329-3501
I am currently in the L.A. area

Background:

-Started first visible/viable LGBT group in anti-LGBT Yuba-Sutter area (north of Sacramento) in 2003, led it though end of 2007
-Volunteer recruiter/trainer with NO on 8 campaign in 2008
-Produced NO on Prop 14 Theatre viral vids in 2010
-Employed as security guard over 5 years – this means I have great FBI and CA Dept. of Justice background checks

I'm still looking for a tripod for an Ex1, in New York, May 8 – 17. I'd also like to rent a small lighting kit (one or two dedo-lights or similar plus stands would be perfect). I'll take my money to a rental house if I have to, but if somebody has these things sitting around and would like to rent them out, let me know!

Hey all, I am a film major, but in school am not getting enough practical experience. I am friendly and easy to work with and innovative/adventurous. Is anyone willing to take me on as a sidekick or a sort of second shadow this summer? I'm not looking for money or anything like that, I just want to learn and experience. I have a passport and am willing to travel.
I know it's a bit late to be asking for summer experiences, but I had a few internships which have fallen through and now I'm up a creek.
I am a great listener and I'm low maintenance, so you don't have to worry about me getting in your way.
Please consider

If you're interested, please contact me at klemwithak@gmail.com
Have a Great Day, everybody!
-Kevin

I'm an emerging, non-union Director of Photography / Camera Operator with over 10 years of experience working on national TV commercials, music videos, and feature narrative films. My years of working in still photography gave me an extensive understanding of lighting and composition which I've segued into my cinematography. Although, I have no experience in non-fiction storytelling, I am extremely passionate about documenting the truth. As Federico Fellini once said,"My fantasy is to make something REAL". So, please feel free to contact me whether or not your next project calls for a Director of Photography and/or Camera Operator.

FLAHERTY NYC PRESENTS
Rebecca Richman Cohen's WAR DON DON

MONDAY, MAY 9, 7:30 PM, ANTHOLOGY FILM ARCHIVES
32 SECOND AVE, NEW YORK, NY, 10003
$9/GENERAL $7/STUDENTS & SENIORS $6/AFA MEMBERS

Director Rebecca Richman Cohen and producer Francisco Bello in person for discussion with Chris Santora, one of the Sesay trial prosecutors featured in the film!

Rebecca Richman Cohen's remarkable debut film WAR DON DON begins at the end of a decade-long civil war in Sierra Leone which has left a population devastated by mass murder, rape and savage disfigurement. Now, in the capital city of Freetown, United Nations soldiers guard a heavily fortified building known as the Special Court. Inside, a man named Issa Sesay awaits his trial. The prosecution say Sesay is a war criminal, guilty of heinous crimes against humanity. The defense says he is a reluctant fighter who protected civilians and was himself a victim of terrible poverty and violent coercion. Justice Benjamin Itoe says the Court means "to bring an end to impunity and to contribute to the peace and reconciliation process." WAR DON DON presents the trial of Issa Sesay in incredible detail and from myriad perspectives, offering a rare and penetrating view of international criminal justice.

"One of the most viscerally compelling documentaries of the year. It will leave you haunted."
Mary Anderson Casavant, Filmmaker Magazine

"Without eliding the grim human cost of the crimes and criminals involved, Rebecca Richman Cohen's unusually lucid documentary plays against type."
Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune

"Fascinating and complex... a remarkably sophisticated examination of the machinery of justice."
The Independent Weekly, Raleigh, NC

Seva Lives (Francisco Serrano) Monday, June 12 at Anthology Film Archives

In 1983, a Puerto Rican newspaper published Seva: History of the first U.S. invasion of Puerto Rico in May 1898. This fictional account of the U.S. invading Puerto Rico and massacring its people was a national sensation. SEVA LIVESdeconstructs the sociopolitical debate of the facts and myths surrounding the history of Puerto Rico and explores the issues that arise when fiction meddles with recollections of the past. Organized by Cinema Tropical, this screening celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 7th Robert J. Flaherty Seminar, held in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico.

I am working on 'Under the Radar' a documentary on the undocumented Irish living in New York. I could do with adivce/help on fundraising options.

'Under the Radar' is a documentary feature that chronicles the lives of the undocumented Irish who immigrated to New York looking for a better life or simply to avoid the unemployment lines back home. It is factual storytelling at its best. It is told from the prospective of three recently arrived Irish immigrants as they navigate their way through a myriad of hurdles in order to stay one step ahead of the immigration authorities. It captures the excitement and disappointment immigrants go through in the Big Apple as they pursue their dreams. It chronicles their fears and aspirations in the wake of 9/11.
Thanks for taking the time.
