Directed by Almudena Carracedo and produced by Carracedo and Robert Bahar, the Emmy-nominated documentary depicts María, Lupe and Maura, three Latina immigrants struggling to survive in Los Angeles sweatshops. One day, determined to win basic labor protections, they embark on a three-year odyssey that will transform their lives forever. Compelling, humorous, deeply human, "Made in L.A." ("Hecho en L.A.") is a story about immigration, the power of unity, and the courage it takes to find your voice.
After the screening, the filmmakers will talk about the innovative fundraising and outreach strategies they employed to make their gripping film.

Our Los Angeles-based documentary feature has recently acquired funding and now seeks a full-time producer. The ideal candidate will be able to begin work immediately. Interest in environmental and political issues is a plus, although this is a very personal story as well.

The call for submissions is now open for the eight edition of
Encuentros del Otro Cine International Documentary Film Festival
(EDOC). EDOC is a celebration of exciting and inventive documentary
films from around the world. It takes place since 2002 in Quito and
Guayaquil and, occasionally, in Cuenca and Manta. Next year's edition
will run from the 7th to the 24th of May, 2009. EDOC annually screens
around 70 films that are representative of contemporary documentary
film production as well as classic films and retrospectives. Some of
the past guests who have come to EDOC are the legendary Albert Maysles
(US); Patricio Guzmán (Chile), one of the most representative
documentary filmmakers in Latin America; Carles Bosch (Spain), Oscar
nominee; Fernando 'Pino' Solanas (Argentina) among others.

We are looking for an intern to begin next week on a feature-length documentary.
The internship will be varied and will combine post-production (editing assistance, logging, scanning, etc.), fundraising, and marketing duties. It's a perfect internship for aspiring producer or documentary filmmaker who want to have a well-rounded knowledge of the field.
All applicants must be computer savvy, proficient with Final Cut Pro, and organized. Students welcome. We don't require a ton of experience. Most important is enthusiasm, a good attitude and hard work.
Availability must be at least three days or evenings a week. You can send us a resume but a good cover letter is much more important.
Looking for a videographer/sound with own HD equipment in the DC area available off and on this fall.
Also looking for an organized production manager who knows the area well, re: permit process, studios, etc...

The other, which comes out November 18, is UP THE YANGTZE, a film by Yung Chang that has been a great sleeper box office hit this summer, about people who are affected by the huge public project of China's Three Gorges Dam, and the tourist boats that travel the Yanqtze River. To kick off Slamdance 2009, we want you to submit a short (3-10 minute) documentary film. Media Empowerment & The Developing World
Presented by Barefoot Workshops in the B&H Seminar Space.
Barefoot Workshops is a New York City and Los Angeles based not-for-profit, founded by Chandler Griffin in 2004, that offers short, intensive workshops around the world in narrative and documentary filmmaking.
In this two-hour session, Chandler Griffin will provide an overview of Barefoot’s role in using media in the developing world to help Civil Society Organizations, Non-Governmental & Governmental Organizations, and individuals make change where it is needed the most. Chandler will discuss the media tools and formats used on the ground, how to conceptualize a workshop and ways to get involved. The goal of this session is to demystify the “how can I do this?” and give individuals a chance to learn how Barefoot Workshops does it, ask all the questions and get involved. You will learn that through Barefoot’s international workshops, they offer field placements for international students to assist organizations on the ground with media projects that help them to address challenges in their communities. These “hybrid” workshops result in dynamic learning environments, and open the way for international students to gain valuable field experience, and to learn about issues firsthand. If you are interested in discovering how you can change the world through the power of digital media, come find out how Barefoot can train anyone from vastly different backgrounds and skill levels, how to blend the technical and artistic aspects of storytelling, beginning with the basics of image-making all the way through to post-production to create a “symphony” of images and sound. Barefoot Workshops hopes that by sharing “how they do it”, they will mobilize individuals to get involved and help make a difference with media.
I recommend registering if you want to attend. It's a small space and B&H sent it out to about 30,000 people. I know that 75 people have already registered.

so here's the million dollar question, Chris... how the heck did you manage to clear all the rock songs that I assume pop up all through the documentary? this seems to present a very solid case of utilizing Fair Use, but i just want to know if you did that, and then how you dealt with (or plan to deal with) any future claims by record companies...
