London International Documentary Festival 2008
- A Conversation in film
CALL FOR FILMS
PocketVisions is calling for film submissions for the expanded London International Documentary Festival (LIDF) - A Conversation in Film, 2008. The festival is presented in association with the London Review of Books, and with the support of the British Museum. 2008 sees a continued association with The Margaret Mead Film and Video Festival (New York).
The LIDF will run for 6 days between Monday 31st March, and Saturday, April 5th, 2008. The opening and closing night gala screenings and reception will take place at the British Museum. Other venues include the Barbican Centre, the Curzon Soho, the Renoir Cinema and the Roxy Bar and Screen.
The call for submissions goes out to an international field of applicants. All successful applicants will be invited to be present at the LIDF. We are looking to support new and innovative filmmaking talent, and to ask filmmakers to participate in a series of intertwining ‘conversations’ to be run alongside the screenings. These ‘conversations’ will involve academics, journalists, policy-makers, NGOs, and other cultural commentators.
The LIDF is calling for documentary films produced between January 1st 2006 and December 6th 2007, and is particularly, although not exclusively, interested in films that fall within the following categories:
* Human Rights
* Heritage and the Arts
* Other social and development issues
Submission Procedure: Film-makers can enter their films, pay entry fees and find out how to submit their DVD or VHS preview copy at http://www.lidf.co.uk
Once the on-line submission has been made entrants will receive a confirmation email and a unique Entry Reference Number.
Deadline for Submissions: 6th December 2007
Late entries accepted until 30th December with penalty (see regulations). Films can only be returned if the ‘return fee’ is included in the submission.
Selected films from the LIDF will be automatically submitted for selection to the Margaret Mead Film and Video Festival, November 2008.
We look forward to seeing your films.
Dok Leipzig, 29.10 - 04.01, I will be commuting most of that week between Berlin and Leipzig, by car, several times. The drive is a bit over 2 hours each way. If one or two people would like to join me and can share in the costs, please contact me by email email@example.com and I'll call you. Thanks!
Hi Soo Kim,
I don't have anyone to recommend, unfortunately, but I did work as an editor at an Architecture magazine here in Toronto that takes a huge interest in sustainable architecture. They run a Green issue every year and it's thoughtful. Really parses what we mean by green and doesn't seem to be after the ad dollard like a lot of publications. If you would like me to pass on the name of an editor there for a potential interview, I'd be happy to do so. Best of luck in your search!
In reply to Soo Kim's post on Tue 2 Oct 2007 :

Point well-taken, and taking steps to correct my subliminal slip - seeing if I can link up with fellow filmmakers on D-Word :) Thanks for the head's up and the welcome.
Now that we've properly lashed you, Marie-Helene, why don't you properly introduce yourself at the Introduce Yourself topic? Then we can give you a proper welcome with trumpets and everything.
I am in need of an experienced PA in San Jose CA. Someone who lives in SJ or nearby and knows the area well. Please be bright, hardworking and drive like a grandmother. Driver's license required (obviously). Still? Robert, if you can take a Canadian, I can pass this on to friends who have film school contacts in Montreal...Just let me know, please.
The Documentary Center at George Washington University is in search of a Fellowship Coordinator for its newly announced Documentary Center/Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Fellowship for 10 documentary filmmakers representing 5 Emerging Nations.
This position will live at the epicenter of every aspect of the fellowship program. The position begins January 1 and concludes September 30, 2008. Position description is attached.
Not still looking, looking again. The intern we had for many months had to leave, so now we are looking for a new one. Film school contacts are welcome and appreciated.
Okay. Will copy and paste this to a few people I know.
Also, I don't know him personally except for the briefest email exchanges, but why not fire this off directly to Peter Wintonick? Last I read, he's teaching at Concordia University filmschool in Mtl (a good one)... email@example.com
We have just about finished our documentary and we're selling our equipment.

Curses, you're not selling a Sony DSR-11 deck for a ridiculously low price.
you in the market for a DSR-11?
i've been giving some thought to selling mine...
Might be, Riley. Have one already but would be good to have a second for clones. It would have to be pretty cheap, though, because it's probably overkill for what I need.

(I'm not quite sure why the Topic Cops erased your post in "Shameless Self Promotion" because many, many others have done the same thing; and as far as double-posting goes, i think it kind of makes sense for you to post both in the public and private topics b/c not all members read the public postings...)
Anyways, congratulations again and have a wonderful time! If I can make it out the ArcLight, I certainly will stop by and say hi.
Explanation given in the Shameless topic. But, hey, are Topic Cops not human?

I'm considering an office move to Brooklyn, and wonder if anyone is interested in either SUBLETTING me a few desks' worth of space in their existing office, or in going in on a space together. Anywhere in the Burough will do. We'll likely be between 1-3 people on any given day.
amir, you should register for the professional side of the d-word. you've only gone halfway in the process.
Amir, Robert Richter had an office to sublet somewhere in New York, am not sure where but you might want to check it through the search engine or contact Bob directly.

THE WALK-ONS by Tim Durham and Aimee Nowland (30 minutes)
College football may be best known for the frenzied competition for top recruits. But what of the local students who want to play for the team? With no full rides offered, these kids work part-time jobs to pay for their tuition. Trampled daily and sold on the hope that after a season or two, they might catch the coach's eye, these walk-ons are not ready to let go of their dreams to go further than the practice field.
MARE IGNOTUM (SEA OF MYSTERY) by Loretta Oleck Berger and Linton Suttner (70 minutes)
It's hard to miss Max Shapiro. Whether on his Harley or showing off his tattoos and pet snake, Max has traveled many lonely roads in his 70 years. But it is the less traveled inner road which most interests his niece as she takes us on a journey to discover more about him and herself in the process.
This program is organized by Adele Schmidt and Erica Ginsberg from Docs in Progress and is co-sponsored by The Documentary Center at the George Washington University.
