Help, Suggestions, Future of The D-Word
Difficulties with The D-Word? If you can't find the right answers on our Help page, please post in this topic. Ideas for future D-Word releases or projects can be posted here as well.
Ok- got it. If anyone's wondering, go to safari prefs > autofill, make sure "user names and passwords" is checked. Then, when you login, it will ask if you want your information stored.

If you want to buy me an iPhone I'll make an iPhone version!
I also liked checking D-word on my iPhone, back when I was living in an iPhone-data-compatible country.
Actually the big problem with D-word on iPhone is that it tends to hang and crash the iPhone browser. I've noticed that certain sites do this on the iPhone, and certain sites work fine and never crash. Of course, there have been some iPhone software updates since I last checked this.
still happens. And I often end up accidentally striking the "hide this topic from now" link instead of the "back to topics list" link. And I hate that everytime it crashes I have to type in my login again.
Facebook's got a pretty decent iPhone app. Different from the site, but pretty solid on the phone. Makes me jones for a D-word version too.
Well. Maybe we iPhone / D-word people should all pitch in for a phone for Peter.
We had discussed a mobile version before but were not sure there was a big demand. Maybe the iPhone is changing that.
Not that I can test it (yet...), but what actions make it crash on the iPhone?
Nothing in particular. If you just go to the D-word site and do nothing it has a tendency to crash. Sometimes even before you get a chance to log in. Sometimes it crashes sooner, sometimes later, but it always crashes if you stay on the site for more than a few minutes.
I assume there have to be some coded operations taking place in the background of the site that cause this, because it can happen while the site is just sitting there, without any user action. Sometimes it becomes VERY slow on basic operations like text entry and then crashes.
Maybe borrow somebody's iPhone and take a look?
I'll do that later this week and see if I can figure out what's going on.
This is not a big deal, but my profile says I joined in 2005, when actually I joined back in 2001. Is there any way to fix that? (Just in case some day there is a special 10-year anniversary party or something)
thanks.
Maybe 2005 was when you first posted on the New Café? You are listed as 2005 there.
Why does it matter anyway? Any member can come to an anniversary party.
Thanks, Ben. That's probably it.
It doesn't matter – just had too much time on my hands that day, I guess ;-}
Doug, Ben
Which of the various topics would be best to post in about 'green' filmmaking? Or might it make sense to have a separate topic? [Perhaps it's there already, but I haven;t found it yet....]
That's a really good question, Andrew. You might want to start out talking about it in the Bar and see if there's enough interest to open a seperate topic.

Doug, I posted my film treatment under works in progress. But now that I think about it. I don't really want it posted for everyone to see and take. Just at such an early stage I now realize it's a bit foolish to throw an idea like that out there. Can you remove the posting?
In reply to Doug Block's post on Sat 24 Jan 2009 :
Thanks a bunch Doug, I hope I didn't offend the D word...I'm still new and not used to these postings. I apologize for the irrational decisions.
No offense and no worries. It's certainly not the first time this has happened.
It's true, Michael.
Why, I posted a copy of your film treatment just last week and had to ask Doug to take it down.
In reply to James Longley's post on Sun 25 Jan 2009 :
Haha I'm glad we're all aware of what we post whether it be our work or not.
Does the D-Word have one of those mini-apps that lets you size and crop the photo that gets used as your thumbnail? I thought I did this before, but went to do it on a new photo and could not find it.
I would also like to be able to do that. This thumbnail photo doesn't show my halo.
Dumb question about the Reelisor topic. I notice that Ben and Doug are posting in it, but posting privileges don't seem to be extended to the rest of us. Or maybe you have to be a Reelisor member? It's not clear. Not that I have anything really to contribute to the topic. Just seems like it would be more used by D-Worders if we could actually post there since it appears no Reelisor members (other than the organizer) seem to be posting there. Maybe it's just been a soft rollout. Anyway, just wondering...
Strange. It was set to allow postings from 19 January. I deleted that setting. Can you see a text box now?
Yes, thanks. Still have nothing much to say, but the issue is fixed.
Well, what would you want to know about documentary series? Tell us in the reelisor topic...
I'm not getting the window to post a question to Fernanda. It's like it's a read-only forum.
Thanks for pointing this out. It should be working now. Please let us know if it's not...
What do D-Worders and hosts think about starting a "Social Media" separate topic thread to cover issues using Facebook, Twitter, etc. & whatever new forms will arise? Social media may span different topics (marketing, distribution, fundraising, etc.), but I know some D-Worders are starting to use social media with varying results.
plus, anything that takes your mind of your healing-arm pain gets my support...
OK, Rhonda, we're giving it a try. Here's the new Social Media Topic for Members of The D-Word.
In reply to Ben Kempas's post on Sat 30 May 2009 :
After reflection, we've decided to rename the new topic to Social Networking for Filmmakers
aka Social Networking so as not to confuse with films that campaign for social change
Sean Flynn should post about his use of Twitter. He has some good tips.
Yes, and there now is a topic for this, Rhonda: Social Networking !
I'm having an iPhone glitch when trying to post on D-word. If I hit the back/delete button, it erases either the whole word, the whole sentence or the whole post. It only happens (so far) on D-word. Any suggestions?
Is this a recent thing or has it been like this all along? Can other iPhone users confirm?
(Note to self: Start a separate fund-raising drive for a mobile version.)
suggest you join the rest of us plebs sitting calmly behind their computers interacting on the d-word.
Well, The D-Word was never designed for mobile phones. But it runs fine on mine (Nokia E90). However, we could do a poll and see how many people want a streamlined version with less data load for their phones.
The data load is fine. Actually, D-word is one of the faster loads at home on my slow connection. It's just the typing deal that is the problem.
I used to have that problem, but I'm not aware of it any more. Have you done a iPhone software update Mikal? That might help.
Huh, no, but I've only had it a couple months and they updated it when I bought it. I think the new software is available. I'll check on that...
