Synopsis: In the remote rural hospital, at the heart of the province of Bansang, The Gambia, a network of individuals strives to save the lives of neonates in this small community. Finding themselves unshaken by the overwhelming statistics of neonatal deaths, Mariama, Anita, and Robert are united by their desire to bring affordable medical care in the form of a robust and revolutionary technology.

The story that unfolds in A Breath of Life, while taking place in the Gambia, is universal. The never-ending struggle to preserve and save the lives of preterm babies is apparent in every frame of the film, in the intricate care of nurses on the paediatric ward, in the searing heat of nurses being trained on the use of CPAP machines, in the conversations between nurses and mothers, in the joyous laughter of a nurse visiting babies that have life because of the CPAP machine. The joy and heartache in Bansang is no different from the joys and heartaches experienced by nurses and mothers worldwide. However, because this takes place in the Gambia, this film invites audiences to witness analogous situations from the starkly different perspective of a poor, diversely populated, Muslim country.
