Seconds Out: Undaunted

A young woman immigrated from Poland in search of the American Dream. Along her journey, she finds the love of her life, and they both face challenges on their pathways. This film, in progress, focuses on social issues that otherwise stay overshadowed.

This impactful documentary, through Aleksandra and Wayne’s real-world perspective, assists the viewer in better understanding and learning how they may make sense of their experiences. It also gives a voice to some who may never have been heard.

The filmmaker used nine different photographers, including the producer/associate director, some more than others at various times. It was challenging to get advance commitments from photographers, with whom the producer/associate director, Kevin Kalunian, worked, to spend 12-18 hours waiting on amateur boxing events or even at professional events. He purchased a Panasonic camera and shot some of the fights as a one-person band; the footage is raw. At other times, we had previously approved camera positions and shot with two cameras. The project was shot on nine different camera formats, and the footage is backed up on two hard disk drive sets. During most interviews, Kevin had to double up as the sound recordist.

Additional shooting will further enhance the production and elevate the narrative arc. We seek a female sports narrator who can add gravitas to the scenes where Aleksandra’s voice might not be available for the track. This NBC News or Sportscaster’s voice will provide the viewer with the audio authenticity bridge necessary for the project.
