Bio
David Majzlin is an Emmy® nominated music producer and composer whose unique background and eclectic approach to music has led him to collaborate with a wide variety of acclaimed filmmakers and artists. His score for BEL CANTO (starring Oscar-winner, Julianne Moore and Ken Watanabe) featured the voice of opera superstar and five-time Grammy-winner, Renée Fleming and was directed by Oscar-nominee Paul Weitz (ABOUT A BOY, FATHERHOOD, AMERICAN PIE). He has collaborated with Mac Arthur Award Fellow, Christina Ibarra (LAS MARTHAS), Peabody Award winner, Robert Rooy (DEEJ), Pulitzer Prize-winner, David Turnley (SHENANDOAH) and acclaimed director, Nancy Buirski for her Multiple Emmy® winner and Oscar-shortlisted hit, THE LOVING STORY, (HBO). His collaborations with director, Jordan Horowitz have led to numerous awards and critical acclaim, including Emmy-award-winner, LALITO 10, IDA-Shortlisted doc JACK AND SAM (Sarah Silverman, Julianna Margulies, EPs), PAINLESS and ANGEL OF NANJING, which made Elle Magazine’s “Films Guaranteed To Make You Cry” review two times in a row.
Commissioned works include Amazon’s hit series, MOZART IN THE JUNGLE (Sony Classical), BEAUTIFUL MONSTERS for HELIOS DANCE COMPANY, which premiered at UCLA's Royce Hall (choreographer, Laura Gorenstein Miller) and additional compositions for DIANA VREELAND: THE EYE HAS TO TRAVEL (MGM, Lisa Immordino Vreeland, dir), THE JONESES (Demi Moore, David Duchovny), SUNSHINE CLEANING (Christine Jeffs, dir.), and and THE GHOST WRITER (Ewan MacGregor, Pierce Brosnon, Roman Polanski, dir.)
David was nominated for a HOLLYWOOD MUSIC IN MEDIA AWARD for JACK AND SAM, an Emmy® for SINS OF MY FATHER (HBO), and a JACKSON WILD MEDIA AWARD for his work on the series EPIC YELLOWSTONE (SMITHSONIAN). He also is the recipient of the UNION DES COMPOSITEURS DE MUSIQUES DE FILMS AWARD for his work on the haunting and beautiful STILLE.
Theater credits include MANIGMA with Tony-award-winner, Michael Aronov (OSLO, THE AMERICANS), and music producer to several acclaimed productions for The Rude Mechanicals Theater Company (NYC), including a rock musical of Shakespeare’s THE WINTER'S TALE starring Omar Metwally (THE AFFAIR, MR. ROBOT, MUNICH). Commercial compositions have earned a TELLY, CADDY, FIRST LONDON INTERNATIONAL ADVERTISING AWARD, and INTERNATIONAL MONITOR AWARD.
As a songwriter and music producer his music has appeared in hundreds of TV projects over the years with unique performers including up-and-coming Alterative R&B artist, BRENDALYNN, Americana fiddler, SARA MILONOVICH, rapper TYTANIC, and powerhouse vocalist, Drea Albert (RHIANNA, ZAC BROWN BAND). He was a two-time finalist in the annual Great American Song Contest and has worked as an orchestrator and programmer with a myriad of unique artists including composer Paul Cantelon (DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY), recording artist Lou Reed, bassist Fernando Saunders and violinist Daisy Jopling of prodigal string trio TRIOLOGY. He also has worked on set as a coach to actors who playing musicians on camera in films such as THE MUSIC NEVER STOPPED (starring J.K. Simmons and Julia Ormand) and GREETINGS FROM TIM BUCKLEY (starring Imogen Poots and Penn Badgley).
David also holds a Master’s degree from New York University in Film and Media Literacy and has designed and taught unique cross-disciplinary curricula for both filmmakers and composers at a number of institutions across the country including New York Film Academy, UCLA Extension, American Film Institute, and Brooklyn College.
