Bio

Francesca is an independent filmmaker, focused on conflict and crisis. Specialising in character-driven stories with a focus on exploring the intricate relationship between gender and war, Tosarelli has covered conflicts in the DRC, Iraq, Ukraine and Palestine, the migrant crisis along the US/Mexico border and the first wave COVID outbreak in Bergamo, Italy. She is a Canon Video Ambassador and has worked for Al Jazeera, BBC, Arte, and Rai Cinema. Her documentary film work includes “American Chimera”, Mexico/U.S.A., 2019, “Iraq: a generation on the frontline”, for Arte Reportage, Iraq, 2019, “The Italian Doctor” for Witness, Al Jazeera, Italy, 2020, “Ukraine’s Unstoppable Medics” for Al Jazeera, Ukraine, 2022 (won the Gold Award at the TV Film New York Festival), “Life Support on the Frontlines”, for Al Jazeera Arabic, Italy, 2024. Her first feature ‘The West Bank Project’ in development with her Palestinian co-Director Kamal Al Azraq has been recently selected at IDFA Forum 2024
