Bio
Kevin Eastwood is an award-winning writer, director and producer who lives and works on the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh territories also known as Vancouver, Canada. Most recently he wrote and directed British Columbia: An Untold History, a critically-acclaimed documentary series that retells the history of the Canadian province of British Columbia from a more diverse and inclusive perspective. The series premiered as a special presentation at Vancouver International Film Festival, received widespread critical acclaim, won five Leo Awards (including Best Documentary Series, Best Direction and Best Writing), and was nominated for 5 Canadian Screen Awards by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television.
Previous credits as director include Humboldt: The New Season, a one-hour documentary for CBC Television about a tragic bus crash that killed 16 members of a junior hockey team (nominated for Best Documentary Program by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television); After The Sirens, also for CBC, about the epidemic of PTSD amongst paramedics (Canadian Screen Award nominee for Best Documentary Program); The Death Debate, a behind-the-scenes look at the landmark Supreme Court of Canada case on physician assisted-dying (Canadian Screen Award nominee for Best Direction); and Emergency Room: Life + Death At VGH, a critically-acclaimed doc-series about the frontlines of emergency health care (Canadian Screen Award nominee for Best Direction and Best Documentary Series, and winner of The People's Choice Award for Favourite TV Series at the Leo Awards).
In addition to his directing work, Kevin is also an accomplished producer. His credits as a producer include the award-winning documentaries Haida Modern, Vancouver: No Fixed Address, Haida Gwaii: On The Edge Of The World, Oil Sands Karaoke and Eco-Pirate: The Story Of Paul Watson, all of which premiered at Hot Docs (with Haida Gwaii: On The Edge of the World winning the festival’s top prize), as well as the dramatic features Preggoland, Fido, and The Delicate Art of Parking, and the Gemini Award-winning CTV movie, Elijah, about the life of Canadian Oji-Cree politician, Elijah Harper.
